How to Create Bootable MacOS Catalina USB Installer?

Installing macOS Catalina is not very difficult if create bootable USB installer properly. There are multi methods for this purpose.

You can create a bootable USB Installer with in softwares or applications such as Rufus on Window PC, Unibeast on Mac or you can do it within build-in-mac Terminal if you own a Mac computer.

Should You Use Rufus or Unibeast? 

Both Rufus and Unibeast do the same job which is creating macOS bootable USB and depending on your personal interest you can choose either of them.

Remember that Rufus is only available for Windows PCs. Therefore, you can not use this application on your mac for this purpose. Whereas, the Unibeast is avilable for bothe Mac and Windows PC.

Should You Use Unibeast or Terminal?

Similarly Command Prompt or cmd is build-in-Windows software that can be used for the same purpose. Whereas, the Unibeast is a third party application used specifically for making bootable USB.

1st Method: Create Bootable MacOS Catalina USB Installer via Terminal:

Required Files:

  • MacOS Catalina DMG File
  • Terminal
  • 16 GB USB Flash Drive

Step 1: Insert the 16GB flash drive to your computer USB port

Step 2: Erase the flash drive with the following format. To do so, open the disk utility and select your USB drive.

  • Name: macOS Catalina
  • Format: macOS Extended Journaled
  • Scheme: GUID Partition Map

Step 3: Open Finder and Drag and Drop the download macOS Catalina dmg file in“Applications Folder”

Step 4: Open the spotlight then search and open the Terminal.

Step 5: Type on terminal the word sudo and press one time space bar.

Step 6: Now open the Applications Folder and find the macOS Catalina you drop before, and do a right click on it then choose “Show Packages Contents” => Contents=> Resourcesand search for creainstallmedia

Step 7: Now drag and drop the ” createinstallmedia ” on the terminal and type on the terminal –volume again press one time space bar.

Step 8: Return to your desktop now. On Apple bar go to Edit button and choose Go to Folder (or simply press cmd+shift+G) then type /volume and press enter.

Step 9: Now you should notice all the mounted drives together with your flash drive. Drag your mounted flash drive and drop it on terminal window. Press enter.

Step 10: Enter your administrator password and press enter

Step 11: Type the letter ” Y “on the terminal window to agree. And your flash drive will start booting.

Type ” Y” to agree

You have done it successfully.

It may take a while until then do not unplug the flash drive.

Method Two: Create Bootable MacOS Catalina USB Installer Via Unibeast

Required Files:

1. macOS Catalina dmg file

2. Unibeast Application

Tip: To download UniBeast Application you need to sign on Unibeast official webpage and then you will be able to download the latest version of Unibeast App.

Step One: Attach your Flash drive to your computer and erase it with the following format:

  • Name: macOS Catalina
  • Format: macOS Extended Journaled
  • Scheme: GUID Partition Map

Step Two: Open the UniBeast Application and click Continue to proceed to next step

Step Three: Agree to Terms and Conditions 

Step Four: Select your attached Flash Drive and click Continue to proceed

Step: Five: Now select the operating system (macOS Catalina) and click Continue.

Step Six: on Boot-loader Configuration Window depending your computer either select UFELI Mode or UEFI Mode and click Continue. You are highly advised to determine whether your computer supports UEFLI or UEFI mode.

Step Seven: Now select the graphic card configuration which your computer supports and click Continue. Remember to choose it wisely.

Step Eight: Click Continue to proceed to the very last stepand then enter your administrator password to start booting.

It may take a while. Therefore, be patient tillthe flash drive is booted.
