Create Bootable Mac OS Mojave USB installer Drive

In this article I am going to show you the two super easy methods to create a bootable Mac OS Mojave USB drive installer.

Therefore, The first option is using build in Terminal and the second method is using the UniBeast Application to create bootable Mac OS Mojave USB installer.

However, if you are not familiar or don’t like using Terminal I suggest to go for the second method.

Why you should use a Bootable USB Installer?

Since there are different methods you can apply to install brand new Mac OS Mojave on your Mac system. E.g., you can use a DVD which is good but not convenient because it take longer then your patient to be installed.

Therefore, the best way to install Mac OS Mojave is using a bootable Flash Disk because it only not decrease the risk of damaging the disk but also it speed up the installation time.

So, let’s get started!

Method 1: Using Build-in Terminal

To create bootable Mac OS Mojave USB installer you must first download the latest Mac OS Mojave file from the App Store or Apple Official Website. However, If you already have a copy of Mac OS Mojave skip this step and follow the following procedures inculded below.

Please note that to create a bootable USB desk you will require at least 8GB Flash desk. Therefore, make sure to use the proper USB drive.

Build in MacOS Terminal Window

Procedures to Create Mac OS Mojave USB Installer:

Step 1: Erase Your USB Drive:

  • Plug the USB drive to your computer, then open spotlight by pressing command+space and search for the Disk Utility then press enter key .

  • Choose your USB drive on the desk utility and then erase it as following:
  • Name: Mac OS Mojave
  • Format: Mac OS Extended Journaled
  • Scheme: GUID Partition Map

Step 2: Drop the Downloaded Mac OS Mojave File in Applications Folder:

  • To do so, find the downloaded Mac OS Mojave file where you downloaded and open the Finder and drop it in “Applications folder”.  However, If it is already placed in the applications folder you don’t need to do it again.

Step 3: Create Bootable USB driver Via Terminal

  • Press command+space to open Spotlight and search for Terminal and press enter key to open it, and then type on the Terminal window the word (sudo) without any parentheses and press one time space bar.

Note: The complete terminal commands for this purpose is provided right at end of this method (create bootable Mac OS Mojave USB installer via terminal). if you have any sort of difficulty I high recommend you to approach to those commands.

Type “sudo” on the Terminal Window
  • Now open the Finder window and go to applications folder where you placed the “Mac OS Mojave file”. Then right click on “Mac OS Mojave file” and select “Show Packages Contents”, and open up “Contents” then “Resources” and locate create install media. You may see it like (createinstallmedia)

  • Drag and drop the create install media file anywhere on the terminal window then type (- -volume) and press one time the space bar. Make sure to use no parentheses.

  • Now head back to your desktop and press command+shift+G to open (Go to Folder Window) then type (/volumes) and press enter key. Again use no parentheses.

  • Now you will see all mounted drivers on your Mac plus your USB desk. Then drag your USB desk and drop it on the terminal window and press the enter key once. Then enter your administrator password on the terminal and press again the enter key.

  • Now to continue simply type (Y) on the terminal window and press enter or return key and your bootable USB driver will be ready in some minutes.

Terminal Commands to Create Bootable Mac OS Mojave USB Installer:

sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Mojave.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia –volume /Volumes/MacOS\ Mojave

Method 2: Create Bootable Mac OS Mojave USB drive Via Unibeast:

Step 1: Erase Your USB Drive:

Again, the first thing you need to do is to format your USB drive. Therefore, plug your USB disk to your computer and press command+space bar to open spotlightthen search for the Disk Utility and press enter.

Select your USB drive on the desk utility and then erase it with the following option:

  • Name: Mac OS Mojave
  • Format: Mac OS Extended Journaled
  • Scheme: GUID Partition Map

Step 2: Download MacOS Moajve:

Now you need to download Mac OS Mojave latest version. To do so, simple go to App Store and search for Mac OS Mojave then download it. However, It is also essential to drop the Mac OS Mojave file in the Applications Folder after the downloaded completed if it is not already located there.

Step 3: Download UniBeast App:

In order to download UniBeast you will need to create and account via you email account if you already do not have any. Then go to download section and make sure to download the UniBeast latest version for Mac OS Mojave.

Step 4: Create Bootable Mac OS Mojave USB Driver Via Unibeast:

  • Open the Spotlight by pressing command+space bar, then search for Unibeast and open it. Click on continue button and agree to license agreement.

  • In the Select Destination Window choose your USB drive and click on continue button.

  • Now in the Select OS installation window choose Mac OS Mojave and again click on continue button. In case, you didn’t see the Mac OS Mojave icon make sure to drop the downloaded Mac OS Mojave file in the Applications Folder as mentioned before.

  • Select UEFLI Mode in the boot-loader configuration window. But If your computer does not support UEFI then go for the second option (Legacy boot mode). Then click continue to proceed.

  • In the graphic optional configuration window, select the proper graphic card configuration according to your computer. In my case I have selected Inject Navidia. Then click continue.

  • The last step is to check and verify your installation. Therefore, click continue to initiate. Then you will be required to enter your administrator password and click OK to start the process.

It may take a while till the process is completed. So, Make sure not to unplug the USB flash disk or turn off you computer.

In Addition, after the bootable Mac OS Mojave USB is created, restart you computer and press Alt or Option key then select install Mac OS Mojave to begin installation.

Sum Up:

In conclusion, the easiest way to create a bootable Mac OS Mojave USB install drive you can use the build-in Terminal or an application. As a result, the best application as I have experienced is UniBeast App. It is also note worthy that you use both terminal and UniBeast app to create bootable USB for earlier versions of Mac OS e.g. Mac OS Serria, High Serria.
